Game: Golden Egypt
Manufacturer: IGT
Advantage play potential: Medium
What Makes it Special: Collect two coins to make a reel wild for two spins. Multiple reels can be wild at a time. Persistent state at each bet level.
Golden Egypt is a typical persistent state game from IGT, offering some standard Advantage Play features. It’s similar to the previously reviewed Ocean Song on this site, but Golden Egypt came first. Wild reels and a bonus with volatility options similar to Scarab make this one a fun one.
Understanding the Game
The game is a 5×4 reel with 75 lines, so there’s a decent amount of ways to line symbols up. The game has a free spins bonus round. In the main game there’s also a way to get reels of wilds by collecting coins.
The game has five bet levels, and many times can be found in a multi-denomination format, like many other games with a persistent reel state.
Collecting Coins
Whenever a coin lands on a reel, it is collected and placed into one of the two slots at the top of the reels. When two coins are collected, the reel will turn wild for two spins.
It is possible for multiple reels to be wild at the same time, which can lead to some strong line-up potential.
Understanding the Advantage
The coins and wild reels are the advantage opportunity in this case. Coins are persistent within a bet level, so if a player walks away with a number of reels with 1/2 of the coins filled in, especially on reels to the left, there’s a higher advantage potential in getting the reels to turn wild.
What makes this game a bit less guaranteed than others, though, is you don’t have any idea how many spins it might take to land the coins. It could take one or it could take a lot. Furthermore the best advantage scenarios, having multiple wild reels, may not happen at all.
The biggest advantage is if a player didn’t realize they triggered the wild reel(s) for one or two spins; in cases where they’ve left the wilds behind, that’s even more of an opportunity, although a rarer scenario.
Each bet level has its own persistent reel states, so you can scroll through five bet levels, and usually multiple denominations, to see what’s available.
Free Spins Feature
When three bonus symbols are landed anywhere on the five reels, a free spins feature is triggered. The player is given three choices:
- 1 wild reel for 30 spins
- 2 wild reels for 15 spins
- 3 wild reels for 5 spins
The position of the wild reel(s) is random per spin. This is effectively a volatility decision; three wild reels are likely going to give a lot more chances for winning potential than one.
Watch and Learn
IGT, the manufacturer of the game, released a video on their YouTube channel showing how the game works.
Really have a question. Why on this game is it so hard to get a bonus??
Hi Kylie – it’s how the game is designed, really, and many newer IGT games are tough to bonus on. The flip side is often those bonuses have additional potential than their older games, so they’ll often times pay better. Bonuses that pay better will often be harder to get, as there’s only so much money to go around in a game’s payback.
