Aristocrat has quickly expanded its various games with persistent state elements. 5 Coin Frenzy Jackpots is a series that takes a different approach, with a bonus meter featuring coins on the top box. Get 5 coins, and the Frenzy is initiated, enhancing the chances for wins, but by no means guaranteeing it.
Let’s take a look at what this means for game play. There are different types of games in this series; today I will be looking specifically at the Tiger Wealth version, which appears to have a clone in the theme Wukong Wealth.
Understanding the Game
The game is an all ways pays game with 88 credit bet increments. The bet panel shows the options, and shows how many coins have been accumulated. These coins are bonus meters towards a feature called Frenzy Mode – we’ll get to that in a moment.
Aside from Frenzy Mode, there’s a progressive pick, a random wilds feature and a free spins bonus – lots of features and bonuses, which should indicate a tougher game. So does the fact that there’s 11 pay table symbols, plus the wild, bonus symbol, red envelope and golden envelope. The latter two appear on reel 3 and can be a blocker, although they bring their own value.
The red envelope is how you collect coins, and it only appears on reel 3. When one appears, at least one coin, but potentially more than one, can fly out of it and into the envelopes up top.
The game uses a mystery symbol stacked reels format, where a symbol is picked at random (but not wilds or any of the special bonus symbols) each spin.
Random Wilds Feature
On any base game or Free Games spin, you can get the Random Wilds Feature. This feature will randomly place between 1 and 15 wilds on the reels. The reels then come to a stop, and the pays are awarded.
The great part about this feature is you can still win any of the other features or bonuses when this feature triggers, other than it cannot retrigger itself (so no Random Wilds on top of Random Wilds).
Frenzy Mode
Frenzy Mode is enabled when all 5 coin slots are filled, hence the name of the series. Each paid spin that follows for a minimum of 5 spins are each Frenzy Mode spins, which guarantee a Random Wilds Feature on each spin. This therefore is an enhancer over a normal base game spin.
On top of that, bonus reels are in effect during Frenzy Mode, and you can collect additional coins during Frenzy Mode, which can keep it going, although they don’t come from the red envelope symbol, which is removed from the reels during this mode. Frenzy Mode ends when the coins on the top screen have been exhausted.
Because of the use of bonus reels, it does seem the chances for a Free Games bonus is enhanced during Frenzy Mode, although this didn’t work out in my time on the game.
Because coins are going up and down at any given time, they use a golden background to distinguish when this game is in Frenzy Mode vs. normal mode.
Free Games Bonus
Getting the Gold Tiger bonus symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4 trigger the free games. You’re awarded 8 spins, and the Random Wilds feature can occur on any free game (they appear with more regularity in the bonus).
5 Coin Frenzy Jackpot Bonus
If you land the golden envelope symbol on reel 3, you get to pick golden envelopes, the number of which is equivalent to your line bet – 1 for 1x, up to 5 for 5x.
Inside each envelope can be a progressive jackpot (Grand or Major), flat jackpot bonus prizes (Maxi, Mini or Minor), or credit amounts, which are lower than the flat bonus prizes. This is why the bet panel talks about betting up for more jackpot selections – should you trigger this feature you get more picks.
Understanding the Advantage
Once you get to that Frenzy Mode, you have a number of spins with the potential addition of wilds. The line pays on this game are as such that enough wilds in the right spots can pay quite well. The use of bonus reels does seem to improve the chances for a Free Games Bonus The challenge is that you can also be skunked, which is what I effectively encountered in my first runthrough of this game.
Finding a game in Frenzy Mode already is of course most ideal, because even if you have three or more coins up there, which indicates you’re getting close, it’s not always easy to get the remaining coins. Furthermore, you’re also required to wager for each Frenzy Mode spin, so there’s some additional skin in the game for potentially no benefit.
Still, with five bet levels, and some decent payouts when it hits, this is probably worth a look at your casino if it’s available.
