Megabucks is a popular series of machines in Las Vegas. Mega Vault is an incredibly volatile game from IGT with a dedicated fan base. So it’s a pretty interesting choice to see these two themes married, but as a whole it works.
The base game and free spins lean heavily on the Mega Vault format. It’s an all ways pays game with the bet increments bumped to 100 from the 40 credits of the original. You must bet at least 300 credits to qualify for Megabucks, but the top bet can go to 500 or 1000 credits, depending on the casino. Betting higher increases your chances for Megabucks (which is very small to begin with).
2x multipliers sit on reel 2, 3x on reel 3 and 4x on reel 4. Regular wilds are added into the mix, which reduces the potential in some ways but increases the chances for line hits.
Like the original, three vaults triggers the free spins. However, instead of starting with 5 spins for three vaults, you get 8. (More vaults get you more free games; 4 vaults get you 12 games.) Like before, wilds are sticky for the remainder of the bonus; like the base game you can get the multiplier wilds or just regular wilds. Retriggering works like the original; getting a vault on reels 1 and 5 yields a couple more spins.
The Megabucks additions are pretty straightforward – 5 Megabucks symbols will award the Megabucks progressive. However, any Megabucks symbol can trigger a predetermined progressive pick where you can win a progressive. The game comes with four other progressives to go for, and the Megabucks progressive can also be revealed in this bonus.
It doesn’t feel as volatile as the original Mega Vault to me, but then again Megabucks games are pretty tough customers as a rule given the low payback percentage.
