As I finish a bit of looking back, one of the first games that really began to show me the potential of slots was Robin Hood and the Golden Arrow, another slot from the G+ Deluxe line by WMS.
This particular game, like Cirque du Masquerade features a symbol replacement aspect to the reels in a number of adjacent positions, that allow for stacked symbols to be in play, and if they are landed just right it can be quite lucrative.
The wild symbol is able to be stacked, which can help along some bigger win potential, but also available on the middle reel is a 5x multiplier, which can further amplify pays quite heavily in the base game.
Free spins are triggered when three or more Robin Hood bonus symbols appear scattered on the reels. The free spins are awarded based on the number of scatter symbols:
- 3 bonus symbols: 8 free spins
- 4 bonus symbols: 20 free spins
- 5 bonus symbols: 40 free spins
You can retrigger during the bonus for more spins, with the same options as above. An alternate set of reels is used, likely giving more chances for wins, and the stacked symbols of randomly replaced symbols on the reels continues.
However, one important change occurs: The 5x wild symbol on reel 3 becomes a 10x wild symbol, which can further amplify the pays.
In my earlier years of gambling, one of my first 100x wins that I vividly recall happened at Isleta Casino on this game. I was betting what for me was a high 50 cents a spin, and managed a 100x line hit for $50. It was hard to contain my excitement, given I rarely saw wins that big back then.
The game still has the ability to deliver potential, and I have still seen it here and there, but like many games of its era are slowly fading away as the machines they’re available on are removed from casino floors due to lack of parts. But if you find one, it’s worth a go given the potential for big wins!
